LAB REPORTS are required in many of the labs we'll be doing in class. For example, you may be designing a lab about pillbug behavior or osmosis in eggs or photosynthesis rates in spinach leaves. Since you are designing these investigations yourself, we need to follow a basic procedure as to how information be recorded in your notebooks. Occasionally we will do a formal lab write-up which will need to include research, source citations and typed graphs and data tables.
The Rules:
1. Lab reports should be clearly handwritten or typed. If I can't read it, it's wrong.
2. Always organize your data in a table. Remember to include a title, units and labels.
3. Graphs need to follow the TAILS guidelines: Title, Axes, Intervals, Labels, Scale
4. Use complete sentences and proper grammar. Proof read what you write!
Basic Lab Report Format:
Title
Authors
Introduction (not always required for class work)
Hypothesis (Use the "If. . .is related to. . . .then. . ." format)
Materials
Procedure or Methods (in a numbered list)
Results (Data tables and Graphs)
Analysis (Discussion of the results)
Conclusion
Works Cited (not always required for class work)
